We Can Solve This
The problem may seem big. The problem may seem huge. To many the problem is unsolvable, but not to some. Some view this crisis coming to an end soon. Some are trying to solve the problem. The only way to tackle a huge problem like this is to start chipping away and it will get done. Many dream of a world where everyone has the right to clean water.
This problem is the worlds problem because the world has to come together to solve it. The people who have water have to help the people who don’t get the clean water. There are almost a billion people without water so there is no one organization that can solve this. The key is to educate people. If you educate people about the problem and tell them to act in small organizations then it will get done. If people are not educated about it then the problem will not get solved.
Small projects sponsored by organizations or Non Governmental Organizations (NGO's) can solve many problems. Many small projects are the most efficient way to go because there are small communities in large areas. One large project would be inefficient. Small projects usually consist of installing the tools necessary for getting clean water. Often times they install lines and pumps to have clean water sent into an area. They install wells for people who can't afford them, such as schools. In addition to giving people access to clean water, many organizations will install hand washing stations or sanitation areas so the water will be clean and disease will not be as prevalent.
Another key to solving the problem is not overlooking the whole thing. As well as in Africa and third world countries, many poverty stricken areas in 1st world countries also have dirty water issues. It is possible there are areas near you that have dirty water issues. The main theme is not the country; it is the wealth of the area. You can start in your community and go outward from there.
That being said, there are a lot of organizations and events to promote clean water. An organization called “World Visions” will have you sponsor a child or town and they will raise enough money to build a water facility near their town in a third world country. They work with local communities and local governments to construct large scale water filtration facilities. This way you don’t even have to move when sponsoring the child. If everyone did this then we would be able to increase the number of children that live longer.
The UN has made March 22nd World Water day. The purpose of the World Water day is to focus attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Each year the UN highlights specific water related issues for that year. There are celebrations all over the world because fresh water is important. Some points of World Water Day are to highlight water as a source of life and stress the need for water cooperation to protect its value, and to raise awareness about the situation so that more people will act and we can solve the problem.
Organizations like the UN, the NRDC and UNICEF are all trying to put an end to this water crisis. Organizations like these that have the power can inspire people to act and can organize people to act. With out them then the fight would not be strong. They have the power to influence other high officials to act as well.
The UNICEF Tap Project is a nationwide campaign that provides clean water and adequate sanitation to children around the world. Since 1990 more than 2 billion people have gained access to clean water.
According to the NRDC, The US is implementing an “implementation of the water for the poor act.” This act has put into effect many strategies for delivering clean water and sanitation to people in need of it. There have been 3 major steps toward this act. The first one is to develop a water strategy and take a comprehensive view on water. This will allow more people to get involved and raise awareness. If awareness is raised then the problem is more likely to get solved. The second one is to have the US get involved in the global water scene. The government can get involved with the UN and raise international awareness. The final part is actually delivering water to the people in need. Working with organizations that care about the problem will provide for good solutions/actions to the problems.
